Analgesic, refreshing and uplifting
Menthol is the active component of mint. It has a pleasantly minty aroma and it is revitalising, stimulating, cooling and soothing for skin. It gives a tingly taste and is a popular ingredient in dental remedies, helping to fragrance the breath and giving a feeling of lingering refreshment in the mouth.
Menthol is the beautiful white, crystalline, aromatic compound obtained from Mentha arvensis (corn mint, field mint) that makes mint cool. It is obtained by freezing mint oil and physically separating the crystals using a centrifuge.
Menthol was used for its benefits in Japan 2,000 years before it was widely used globally. Today it is a popular ingredient in dental remedies for its analgesic properties to relieve mouth irritations, for the feeling of lingering refreshment it leaves in the mouth and for its effectiveness in fragrancing the breath.
Applied on skin it stimulates blood vessels: it helps them dilate for a fresher feeling on skin and also stimulate sensory nerve endings for a tangling effect on the skin. This make it excellent for body care and scalp products. Moreover it’s really effective in relieving muscle pain and headaches as a mild analgesic.
Finally its refreshing, reviving and tension-relieving qualities make menthol a great ingredient in products designed to uplift the mood and relieve stress.
