Toning and balancing
Cedarwood has a pleasant, balsamic and woody aroma and is used extensively in perfumery. This ancient, antiseptic and astringent oil tones and tightens the skin. These qualities help to balance sebum production and clear skin and scalp.
Description
Lush use two types of cedarwood oil, all extracted from the wood of the evergreen shrub by steam distillation. One is from the cupressus funebris variety, a tall tree originating from China ; the other is the Virginian variety (Juniperus virginiana). The Juniperus virginiana cedarwood oil has a less smoky scent than the chinese variety in which it is very intense.
The absolute, made out from the chinese variety, has a lighter and sweeter scent than the oil.
Aromatherapists believe that cedarwood has a sedative and balancing effect on the nervous system. It has been used in meditation to relax and harmonise the mind.
